Description

Classic dessert with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. While shortcakes are baking, gently mix sliced strawberries with powdered sugar.
  8. Let shortcakes cool slightly. Split them in half and spoon strawberries over the bottom half. Top with whipped cream and the other half of the shortcake.
