Description

Homemade soft peppermint candies for the Christmas holiday.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Continue cooking without stirring until the mixture reaches 260°F (hard-crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and red food coloring.
  5. Pour onto a greased baking sheet.
  6. Let cool slightly, then cut into small squares with oiled scissors or a knife.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar.
  8. Let cool completely.

  • Store in an airtight container to prevent sticking.
