Description

A rustic, free-form tart featuring sweet pears and tart apples with a hint of caramel.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 small apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, gently toss the sliced pears and apples with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Arrange the fruit mixture in the center of the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the fruit.
  5. Fold the pastry border up and over the edges of the fruit, pleating as needed to create a rustic edge.
  6. Brush the folded pastry border with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed, and the fruit is tender.
  8. Let the galette cool on the baking sheet for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can add a pinch of salt to the fruit mixture to enhance the flavors.
  • If you don’t have puff pastry, a pie crust can be used.
