Description

Easy homemade maple glazed donuts perfect for a festive holiday treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out to 1/2-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters of different sizes.
  8. Place donuts on parchment-lined baking sheets, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Fry donuts in batches for 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  11. Remove donuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  12. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  13. Dip each warm donut into the glaze, letting excess drip off.
  14. Place glazed donuts on a wire rack to set.

Notes

  • Ensure your oil temperature is consistent for evenly fried donuts.
  • You can add a pinch of cinnamon to the dough for extra flavor.
