Description

A hearty casserole with Italian sausage, peppers, and cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown Italian sausage over medium heat. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add onion and bell peppers to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Pour mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Top with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier casserole, use hot Italian sausage.
  • Add other vegetables such as mushrooms or zucchini.
