Description

A classic Italian Christmas cookie recipe, perfect for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • For the Glaze:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the cookies cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Once the cookies are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze or drizzle it over them. Add sprinkles if desired.
  11. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • You can add a few drops of food coloring to the glaze for festive colors.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
