Description

Enjoy warm, comforting cinnamon rolls with hot cocoa flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Mini marshmallows, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon.
  6. Punch down dough and roll it into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  7. Spread the butter mixture evenly over the dough.
  8. Roll dough tightly into a log, starting from the long edge.
  9. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.
  10. Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  11. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  13. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  14. While rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  15. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until frosting is smooth and creamy. Stir in vanilla extract.
  16. Let rolls cool slightly before frosting.
  17. Spread frosting over warm rolls and top with mini marshmallows.
  18. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • For best results, ensure your milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • If you don’t have time to let the dough rise, you can use rapid-rise yeast and reduce the rising time.
  • Store leftover cinnamon rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
