  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks, beaten

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 box of vanilla wafers (about 12 oz)
  • Whipped cream, for topping

Instructions

  1. Combine granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, and salt in a medium saucepan and whisk together.
  2. Gradually whisk in whole milk and place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
  3. Remove from heat and temper the beaten egg yolks with a small amount of the hot pudding mixture, then stir back into the saucepan.
  4. Return to heat and cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract and unsalted butter until melted and combined.
  6. In a serving dish, layer half of the vanilla wafers, half of the sliced bananas, and half of the pudding mixture. Repeat the layers.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. Before serving, top with whipped cream and additional banana slices if desired.
