Description
Sloppy Joes with French onion soup flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 6 hamburger buns, split
- 6 slices provolone cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in French onion soup, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns. Top with provolone cheese, if desired, and the top halves of the buns.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and ground sirloin.
- If you don’t have beef broth, you can use water instead.
- You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
