Description

Sloppy Joes with French onion soup flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns, split
  • 6 slices provolone cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour in French onion soup, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns. Top with provolone cheese, if desired, and the top halves of the buns.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a combination of ground beef and ground sirloin.
  • If you don’t have beef broth, you can use water instead.
  • You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
