Description

A festive and easy French toast bake made with eggnog, perfect for holiday mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) challah or brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups eggnog
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, maple syrup, extra cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, eggnog, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the eggnog mixture evenly over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Press down gently to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  5. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the French toast bake.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the bake is set and golden brown on top.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a good quality eggnog.
  • If you don’t have challah or brioche, a sturdy white bread can be used, but let it soak longer.
  • You can assemble this bake the night before and bake it in the morning for a convenient breakfast.
