Classic Apple Pie Recipe: A Timeless Delight to Bake

Classic Apple Pie

A classic apple pie recipe that combines the tartness of Granny Smith apples with the sweetness of Honeycrisp, encased in a flaky, buttery crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 68 tbsp ice water
  • 68 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp butter, to dot

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust by mixing flour, salt, and sugar, then adding butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  2. Chill the dough for at least one hour.
  3. Prepare the apple filling by tossing sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Roll out one disc of dough and place it in the pie pan, then fill with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second disc of dough, cover the filling, seal the edges, and cut slits in the top crust.
  6. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
  7. Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Avoid overmixing the pie crust to maintain flakiness.
  • Consider using a pie shield to prevent crust edges from burning.
  • Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing for better texture.
