Description

Classic chocolate cookies with a refreshing peppermint flavor, perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and peppermint extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are set. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cookies cool, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth and pourable. Add more milk, a teaspoon at a time, if needed to reach desired consistency.
  9. Once the cookies are completely cool, drizzle the glaze over them. If desired, sprinkle with crushed candy canes before the glaze sets.

Notes

  • For a stronger peppermint flavor, you can add a few drops of peppermint extract to the glaze.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
