- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pound tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, softened butter, and salt. Mix with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press half of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
- In a separate bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crumb crust.
- Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples.
- Crumble the remaining half of the crumb mixture over the caramel and apples.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For best results, use tart apples like Granny Smith.
- Ensure the bars are fully cooled before cutting to prevent them from falling apart.
- You can add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the crumb topping for extra texture.
