Description

Easy and delicious caramel apple bars perfect for fall baking.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound tart apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, softened butter, and salt. Mix with a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press half of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crumb crust.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples.
  7. Crumble the remaining half of the crumb mixture over the caramel and apples.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For best results, use tart apples like Granny Smith.
  • Ensure the bars are fully cooled before cutting to prevent them from falling apart.
