Description
A simple and delicious fall dessert featuring tender baked apples with warm cinnamon spice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash and core the apples, leaving the bottom intact to create a well. You can peel the top third of the apple if desired.
- Place the apples in a baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Spoon the cinnamon-sugar mixture into the core of each apple.
- If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the filling in each apple.
- Add about 1/4 inch of water to the bottom of the baking dish.
- Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Baking time will vary depending on the size and type of apple.
- Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if you like.
Notes
- For a caramel apple flavor, drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
- You can add a pinch of ground cloves to the spice mixture for extra warmth.
- Ensure the water in the baking dish does not evaporate completely during baking; add a little more if needed.
