Crispy and tender apple fritters, perfect for a fall dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use firm apples like Honeycrisp or Fuji.
- You can add a tablespoon of caramel sauce to the batter for extra flavor.
- Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
