Description
A classic apple crumble pie with a buttery crust and a sweet, spiced apple filling, topped with a crunchy crumble.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 recipe for pie crust
- 6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with your prepared pie crust.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, and 1/4 teaspoon salt for the crumble topping.
- Cut in the cold butter pieces using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the crust edges start to brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil.
- Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
- You can use a mix of apple varieties for a more complex flavor.
- Ensure your butter for the crumble topping is cold for the best texture.
